5 Things I Love About Being a Florist in Swanage

Swanage is a seaside town on the eastern edge of the Isle of Purbeck

As a wedding and events florist in Swanage, I feel incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, a supportive local community, and many exceptional flower growers in the surrounding area. From the rolling green hills to epic seaside views, beautiful walks, and excellent fish and chips; there are so many reasons to love this part of the world, but here are my top five.

The Beautiful Venues in the Surrounding Countryside

Swanage is nestled in the stunning Dorset countryside, which means there are many beautiful venues in the area that are perfect for weddings and special occasions. From rustic barns to grand country houses, there is no shortage of stunning backdrops for spectacular events. In Swanage alone, we have several beautiful hotel venues and even a castle where you can tie the knot (watch this space for a list of my favourite local venues coming up soon).

The Abundance of Nature on Our Doorstep

I am constantly inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds me here and throughout the surrounding countryside. From the wildflowers that bloom on the cliffs, including rare and delicate wild orchids, to the wild hedgerows lining the fields and the colourful planted gardens in the town, there's no shortage of inspiration throughout the seasons. One of my favourite places to visit is Rempstone Wood, where the sea of bluebells carpeted throughout the trees in the spring is truly a sight to behold. It’s a great area for a spot of wild garlic foraging, too.

The Seaside

Swanage is based on the Jurassic Coast, which means we have access to some of the most beautiful beaches and coastlines in the South. The endless views and stunning clifftop walks are an endless source of wonder, with each day offering a unique experience. Many local wedding and event venues, including local Durston Castle, look out onto the sea, making for the most spectacular settings for summer weddings, especially on sunny, blue-skied days, which we have plenty of over the warmer months, thankfully!

The Incredible Flower Growers in the Area

The South of England is home to some of the best flower growers in the UK, and Dorset is no exception. I am fortunate to have access to a wide range of exceptional local cut flower farms across the county, allowing me to create beautiful floral designs inspired by the seasons, with flowers and foliage that benefit both local and independent businesses as well as the environment.

The Wonderful Community

Finally, one of the things I love most about being a florist here is the sociable, friendly, and talented community that I am a part of. I grew up in this sunny little town and feel very fortunate to be surrounded by an incredible network of supportive friends and family, as well as many talented wedding suppliers, stunning event venues, and fellow florists across the county.

Having spent many years living and working in cities, including London, Paris, and Berlin, there will always be a special place in my heart for the hustle and bustle of a city but there is something undeniably magical about waking up in the morning and seeing the sun rising over the horizon of rippling blue sea. The natural beauty, stunning venues, and community are just a handful of the many reasons why I am proud to call this beautiful part of the UK my home.

If you're planning to get married in Swanage or Dorset, stay tuned for my next blog post. I will be talking about some of the super-talented wedding suppliers and venues in the area that I have loved working with and would highly recommend.
